Abstract

As the Middle East’s leading business and service hub, Dubai has been the centre of attraction for various industries for a long time. Finance, logistics, hospitality, real estate and construction industries have been among them. Particularly in real estate and construction, mega projects have been planned, designed and commenced at an amazingly fast pace, competing with the inbound flow of capital and the rising population. Although the global financial crisis has slowed the rate of economic development, many believe that it has also provided the pause that was needed to review, adjust and harden for further growth over the years to come. This paper provides an overview of some of the essential means of construction dispute resolution seen in Dubai. It is anticipated that it will familiarise readers, principally from a foreign contractor’s perspective, with the key features of doing construction business in Dubai.
