Abstract

Instability of ventilatory control manifests as exercise oscillatory ventilation (EOV) and is frequent in advanced heart failure (HF) patients. EOV is recognized as a crescendo-decrescendo breathing pattern of tidal volume and minute ventilation and associated with decreased functional capacity and adverse prognosis and has been attributed to hyperventilation. The effect of cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) on EOV has not been previously reported.
