Abstract

Quench protection(QP) system is responsible for protecting the superconducting magnetic coil in case of quench occurrence. During the QP operating process, overvoltage may be produced under the stray inductance in the system according to the rapid change current. Snubber circuit(SC) in the QP system provides the protection function for the overvoltage restraint in Large-scale Superconductor Test Facility(LSTF) with the power parameter analysis. With the high rated power parameters of 90 kA and 10 kV in the LSTF, the SC is developed and the resistor made of High Voltage Resistor material is put forward due to its remarkable advantages. The simulation processes concerning about heat, deformation and electromagnetic analysis are carried out with FEA tool. By the simulation results, it can be proved that the design of the SC resistor is feasible and effective in the QP system.
