Abstract

AbstractDue to the high demand of initial germplasm of menthol mint with a high content of essential oil, it is necessary to evaluate the variety samples of this crop. The evaluation allows identifying mint variety samples with varying degrees of resistance to such a dangerous disease as rust. Rust is caused by fungi Puccinia menthae Pers. and P. angustata Peck. We identified the initial germplasm for developing a rust-resistant variety by estimating variety samples of menthol mint on fields of the Voznesensky branch of V.S. Pustovoit All-Russian Research Institute of Oil Crops (Krasnodar region, Labinsk district) located in the southern-piedmont zone for three years. During the years of research, the weather conditions varied, which allowed evaluating variety samples under both favorable and unfavorable conditions. The selected variety sample under the commercial name “Rozovskaya Aroma” has been submitted for State variety trial. The further evaluation of the mint collection to the diseases at the Voznesensky branch will be continued.KeywordsAgriculture industryMenthol mintRustPlants
