Abstract
Phytophthora palmivora (Butl.) Butl. from Piper nigrum L. is very specific in its host range. Piper species tested from south-east Asia are highly susceptible; those from the American tropics are resistant or slightly to moderately susceptible. Species of the related genus Peperomia and 43 other species from twenty families are resistant.
