Abstract

Residual thermal strains in a WC-Ni cemented carbide composite at various temperatures were computed using a spheroidal geometry of the WC particles. The results were compared with residual strains measured in the WC particles by a neutron diffraction technique. The anisotropy and the variations of the measured strains with temperature were correctly predicted by assuming that the aspect ratio (L a:L c) of the particles is 1.8.
