Abstract

Expedient residual stress distributions offer extensive opportunities for improved product properties. Metal forming process chains provide an excellent opportunity for the targeted manipulation of residual stresses. The required purposeful process design has to take into account the possible inheritance of residual stress states along the process chain. The paper at hand reveals new insights into the evolution of residual stresses by a distinction between partial and full forming and an analytical model derived for axisymmetric forming. Presented results show the relevance of initial residual stress distributions especially for partial forming processes.
