Abstract

A headspace liquid phase microextraction (HS-LPME) method has been developed and optimized for the residual solvent determination in pharmaceutical products. A microdrop of n-hexanol containing isopropanol (as internal standard) was suspended at the tip of a gas chromatographic syringe and exposed to the headspace of the sample solution. After extraction for an optimized time, the microdrop was retracted into the syringe and injected directly into a GC injection port. Critical experimental factors, including extraction solvent, temperature, ionic strength, stirring rate, extraction time, equilibrium time, drop volume, and sample volume were investigated and optimized. Compared with the static headspace technique, HS-LPME method showed superior results, being compatible with the pharmaceutical samples.
