Abstract

Abstract This chapter covers residential care for children and youth in Argentina. The authors highlight the issues that can arise when residential care is often the first and only care option, the heterogeneity of alternative services, and the lack of opportunities for children and youth to participate in decisions about their care. They also discuss the recent positive development of national legislation focused on transitions from care. The chapter concludes with the matrix used throughout the book, which provides information on the current policy context, key trends and initiatives, characteristics of children and youth served, preparation of residential care personnel, promising programmatic innovations, and present strengths and challenges.
