Abstract
At the meeting of the Southern Section of The Triological Society in Naples, Fla, Drs Christopher P. Dehan and James Jerger, Houston, Tex, presented their work on the analysis of gender differences in the auditory brain-stem response. Specifically, the authors found that in young female subjects there was a variation in the latency of the auditory brain-stem response compared with young male and postmenopausal female subjects. While head size and increased temperature postovulatorily can explain some of this difference, the authors hypothesized that the effect of progesterone in increasing nerve excitability is the primary cause of the decrease in latency.—
