Abstract

The present seismic data resolution itself cannot challenge the exploration of thin reservoirs that is less than 1/4 wavelength. Therefore, it is a worthwhile approach to detect thin reservoirs by tuning the spatial relative amplitude variations with seismic data of an acceptable resolution. This paper, based on the full‐azimuth survey (FAS) data and the relative amplitude preservation processing technique, puts forward a new method to calibrate reservoir between well information and seismic data. At the same time, it discusses how to extract, based on the reference layer, seismic attributes of thin reservoirs, and how to recognize thin reservoirs by analyzing the dynamic Reservoir Evolution Seismic Interpretation (RESI). Applications of RESI method to projects in many oil fields in China show that the method is capable of distinguishing thin reservoirs whose thickness is less than 1/4 wavelength.
