Abstract

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are small groups of cells with self-renewal capacity and multi differentiation potential in tumor tissues.They dominate the differentiation of tumors, proliferation of cancer cells, self-renewal and angiogenesis, and so on.If CSCs can be effectively suppressed, the initiation and development of tumors will be blocked from the origin.This paper mainly reviews the origin of CSCs, the development of CSCs theory, the relationship between CSCs and cancer heterogeneity, metastasis and drug resistance, and CSCs-targeted therapeutic strategies to provide some new ideas for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of cancer in the future.
