Abstract
MMP-9(Matrix metalloproteinase-9) is a type of proteinases expresses in various tissues.MMP-9 plays an important role in individual susceptibility to certain diseases.Its expression is closely associated with the development of certain diseases.Periodontal diseases occur in periodontal supporting tissues such as gingival,alveolar bone,periodontal ligament,cementum.In recent years,many studies have found that the expression and its single nucleotide polymorphism of MMP-9 gene play an important role in the pathogenesis of periodontal diseases.This review provides summary the studies of MMP-9 and its role in the pathogeness of periodontal diseases.
