Abstract
Nickel-rich ternary cathode materials have attracted great attentions due to their high specific discharge capacity, high voltage platform, environmental friendliness and rich nickel resources. However, this kind of materials have suffer severe structural irreversible phase transition, interfacial side reactions and poor thermal stability during the charge discharge process, which greatly hindered the industrial development of nickel rich ternary cathode materials, especially LiNi<inf>0.8</inf>Co<inf>0.1</inf>Mn<inf>0.1</inf>O2 (NCM811)cathode materials. With the deepening of research, the physical and chemical properties of nickel rich ternary cathode materials have been greatly improved. In this paper, the research and development status of nickel rich ternary cathode materials in recent years are reviewed. The existing problems and solutions of the materials are discussed in detail. The future development of nickel rich ternary cathode materials is prospected.
