Abstract
circular RNA(circRNA)is a non-coding RNA molecule with a closed loop structure, which is abundant in eukaryotic transcriptomes. circRNA is conserved in different species and has expression specificity in different tissues and development stages. Since circRNA is not sensitive to nucleases, it is more stable than linear RNA. circRNA has the function of competing endogenous RNA mechanism(ceRNA), which regulates variable splicing and transcription processes and binds to functional proteins. Based on the characteristics and biological functions of circRNA, it plays an important regulatory role in diseases. As the research rises, the mechanisms of circRNA in tissues and diseases have also been revealed. This review aims to summarize the emergence, characteristics, biological functions of circRNA and the latest role in diseases. Key words: Circular RNA; Loop-forming mechanism; Biological function; Biomarker
