Abstract
Research on aeolian vibration of overhead ground wires, carried out on a test line, has shown that galvanized steel and aluminum-clad steel ground wires suffer a loss in self-damping capacity with service, tending to make them more vulnerable to vibration damage as time passes. The loss in self-damping is by a factor of eight. It was also found that during episodes of icing the ground wires experienced aeolian vibration of increased severity, rather than galloping. >
