Abstract

The traditional on-load voltage regulating transformer uses a mechanical switch or an anti-parallel thyristor as a tap switch. By changing the tap position and adjusting the voltage according to a certain discrete step, the reactive power shortage can only be solved by an additional reactive power compensation device. In this paper, a novel topology of flexible on-load voltage regulator based on power electronic converter is proposed. The converter composed of power electronic devices is set on the primary side of the transformer. The novel on-load voltage regulator can adjust load voltage continuously and rapidly, and can also provide reactive power through precise control of the output voltage of the converter. In this paper, the working principle of 10kV/0.4kV flexible on-load voltage regulator is analyzed, and the simulation waveform is used to verify the correctness of the novel topology.
