Abstract

A new method for transient overvoltage (TOV) measurements in 500kV power system using capacitor voltage transformers (CVTs) is introduced in this paper. It is realized with a voltage sensor installed within the CVT as the low-voltage capacitor C 3 connection in series with the high-voltage (HV) capacitor C 1 and the median-voltage capacitor C 2 . Simulations studies and laboratory tests in manufactory have confirmed the validity and practicability of this method, which can be used to measure the TOV of the 500kV power grid.
