Abstract

Due to the increasingly wide usage of air conditioners, more attention has been paid to its modeling and the impact on distribution operation. To improve load modeling for conventional constant speed air conditioner and new inverter air conditioner, operation characteristics for these two types are investigated through a specialized test platform in this paper. Energy efficiency effects of these two types are compared based on long term operation data. Effective load model for power flow studies is proposed in accordance with static operation characteristics analysis. Advice on load modeling for dynamic simulation is provided. In addition, the impact on distribution operation is compared for these two types of air conditioners under conditions involving start, dynamic response and stall shut-down. The inverter air conditioner is reviewed to be more convenient for distribution operation.
