Abstract

This study utilizes national and industry standards to test the interior air quality of more than 30 new vehicles on the market, analyzes the vehicles’ VOCs and odor performance, and deeply investigates the current status of the interior air quality of new vehicles in China. The results showed that: (1) Compared with the GB/T 27630-2011 standard limits, the concentrations of benzene, toluene, xylene, ethylbenzene, styrene, formaldehyde, acrolein in vehicles have reached the standard except for acetaldehyde under normal temperature condition. However, under high temperature condition, the concentrations of these species were obviously higher than that under normal temperature condition. (2) Hundreds of VOC species have been detected in more than 30 vehicles. Among them, high-risk odor substances are aldehydes, alcohols, naphthalenes and other substances. Under high temperature condition, the VOC species emitted in vehicles obviously increased and the concentration was also higher. (3) Regardless of normal temperature or high temperature condition, the most frequently occurred odor description was leather, foam and pungent odors. The test results of objective odor intensity, odor concentration and odor pleasantness under high temperature condition are all worsen than that under normal temperature condition.
