Abstract

Water delivery to the cylinders is one of the ways to reduce the nitrogen oxide formation in a combustion process in CI engine and is justified in published research results. In the aftermath of the admission of the fuel-water emulsion into the engine, along with the reduction of nitrogen oxides, the change in concentration of carbon oxides and particulates, basic engine parameters determining its performance and load of crank-piston assembly can be observed. It the paper, the results of own research of fuel-water emulsion delivery influence on changes of toxic

Introduction

One of the factors determining further development of combustion engines, including marine engines, are the ever tightening regulations for toxic compound emissions. One way to actively influence the combustion in a cylinder is supplying water to the cylinder in the aim of reducing the peak temperature during the combustion process in CI engines. This can be done by [1]: – the water injection to the intake manifold; – injection of water directly into the combustion chamber through a separate injector, or a special design fuel injector with an additional nozzle; – injection of fuel-water emulsion prepared in the fuel system by standard design injector with enhanced efficiency.
