Abstract

Cultural differences generally refer to differences that arise due to regional similarities and differences or the unique cultures of people in different places. Such differences can be beneficial to a certain extent, but at the same time they can also be fraught with dangers and challenges. With the globalisation of the economy, more and more people have the opportunity to work in multinational companies or in cross-cultural teams, which provides more opportunities for people in the workplace to learn and grow, and increases their competitiveness and market value, but it can also affect the efficiency and effectiveness of communication, cooperation, decision-making and innovation. In order to explore this, the GLOBAL project was chosen as an entry point to analyse workplace behaviour in China and Japan, exploring the difficulties and ways of coping with cultural differences in the Chinese and Japanese workplace, based on the dimensions of contextual culture and event perceptions respectively.
