Abstract

A method of two-axle follow-up control for gear measurement was presented and applied to gear tooth profile and helix measurement in this paper. The tangential and axial movement of probe along the tooth surface was implemented by this method. The relationship of the parameters in gear measurement by the follow-up control method was analyzed. A system model for measuring gear helix was established according to the relationship. Movement control algorithm of the system was developed and a fuzzy-PID controller was designed. Then an experiment by gear measuring instrument was carried out to verify the performance of the controller. The experimental results showed that the fuzzy-PID controller could be used in the follow-up control system, with which the gear measurement could reach higher measuring precision than the others with the numerical control system. This method could also be applied in measuring the gears with the non-involution or non-helix, then enhanced the versatility of the gear measuring instrument.
