Abstract

Objective To observe the efficacy of different concentrations of sodium hyaluronate for the treatments of ocular surface acid burns. Methods The records of 90 eyes of 82 patients, which suffered from Ⅰ-Ⅱ degree ocular acid burn were analyzed restrospectively. All cases treated with different concentrations of sodium hyaluronate eye drops and were divided into two groups randomly. The concentration of sodium hyaluronate was 0.1% in group A (49 eyes) and 0.3% in group B (41 eyes). And the tear film break up time and repair time of corneal epithelium were compared between two groups. Results The tear film break up time after surgery was (3.1±1.8)s in group A and (5.4±1.9)s in group B. The repair time of corneal epithelium in group A and group B were (4.0±1.6)d and(2.6±1.2)d respectively. The difference in the corneal epithelium repair time and tear film break up time were statistically significant(P=0.001). Conclusion High concentrations of sodium hyaluronate eye drops (0.3%) are better than the low concentration of the same eyedrop in promoting cornea and conjunctiva repair. Key words: Acid burn, ocular surface; Repair time, epithelium, cornea; Eye drops, sodium hyaluronate
