Abstract
Research on the characteristics of buffer material used as hip protector is carried out in this paper. The experimental device is developed, and the buffer rate of each type of buffer material and its changes under different instant impact and different thickness are detected by using the device. The experimental results show that the buffer rates of material with different hardness are distinct although they are hit by the same instant impact. The experimental results also show that thickness of the material has great impact on the buffer rate. Therefore, there is an optimum thickness and hardness for buffer material to absorb impact. This may help us to make an effective hip protector.
