Abstract

The rail transit system is easily affected under the emergency and normality large passenger flow. The unbalance between the limited space resource and the passenger demand can be generated, such as congestion, the slow travel speed, the interference. It is not convenience to passenger under these scenes even yield accidents. Therefore, the carrying capacity is obtained in this paper to show the operation efficiency and safety of rail transit system. Firstly, the carrying capacity is proposed as the number of passenger that the rail transit station can hold. Secondly, the survey is performed on the platform, stairs and aisle to estimate the theoretical capacity by using passenger flow models. Thirdly, state preference (SP) survey is conducted and the capacity considered passenger perception can be obtained. It can be shown that the number of passenger that rail station can hold may change obviously. The previous aisle capacity may be overestimated and the passengers have strong toleration to congestion in the stair and platform. The quantitative carrying capacity of rail transit under the acceptable level of service can be proposed to provide the theory basis for planning, design and management with the reasonable parameters
