Abstract

Computational thinking, as one of the core literacies of the Chinese IT courses, is an important area of IT education in primary and secondary schools. This research aims to improve the level of computational thinking of high school students by using Minecraft as a tool for Python gamified programming teaching design and analyzing the effectiveness of 60 high school students’ improvement in algorithmic thinking, problem solving, creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration after the teaching practice. The research results show that gamified programming teaching can significantly improve high school students’ computational thinking, providing a new teaching approach and ideas for high school IT education and computational thinking development.
