Abstract

In the production activities of a company, the effectiveness of the company's operations is often evaluated through various evaluation models, which are used as barometers and alarms to monitor the organization's operations based on various data obtained from the evaluation. After a comparative study of 11 evaluation models, we found that they are suitable for simple environments and have simple evaluation dimensions, and should be summarized as “evaluation models for simple environments”. The models that are applicable to simple environments and have simple assessment dimensions should be summarized as “assessment models for simple environments”, such as the “six-box” model; the models that are applicable to slightly more complex environments and have a single assessment dimension are called “assessment models for general environments”; the models with multiple assessment dimensions are identified as “assessment models for complex environments; the models with multiple dimensions are considered as “assessment models in complex environments”. In addition, the trend of organizational effectiveness assessment models is to extend the evaluation index to the whole process of organizational strategy management, to link more and more closely with corporate incentives, and to emphasize the assessment of intangible capital. As China enters a period of high-quality development, the market situation has undergone new changes, and companies have chosen appropriate assessment models to evaluate the operational effectiveness of their organizations in order to meet new challenges in the environment and organizational management and maintain their competitive advantage and healthy development (Matthews 2011). However, there is no one-size-fits-all assessment model for all organizations, and each organization needs to choose the appropriate assessment model according to its own reality. The overall objective of this study is to classify each model into three types according to its “context of applicability”, starting from its assessment dimensions, so that organizations can make appropriate and suitable choices when selecting a model. In addition, this study will discuss the trends of organizational effectiveness assessment models in depth, and provide theoretical support for organizations that build their own effectiveness assessment models to match their corporate strategies, bringing direct or indirect benefits to their applications.
