Abstract

Abstract In this paper, a sapphire-based ultra high temperature optical fiber deep ultraviolet (UV) detection system is proposed to detect the deep UV light emitted by the flame for fire alarm. In order to overcome the high temperature and high pressure environment in engine compartment, based on theoretical analysis and simulation, we designed a high temperature sapphire probe for deep ultraviolet light detection which realized the coupling of large incident angle ultraviolet light and transmission fiber. Experiments show that the system can detect 180–260 nm ultraviolet light, with the maximum working temperature of 1373 K and maximum measurement angle of 50° on one side. The system has a simple structure, low false alarm rate, and response speed of 53 ms.
