Abstract

Offshore wind farm is usually integrated into bulk grid onshore through the AC submarine cable. The voltage stability of grid is affected due to reactive voltage characteristics and compensation scheme. It's necessary to study reactive voltage and control strategy in-depth with offshore wind farms integration in order to increase transmission capacity, reduce impact of large scale of wind power on power system. The impact of offshore wind farm integration on system voltage is studied as well as compensation for security and stability operation of grid and farm. Firstly, the models of offshore farm are built with wind turbines, submarine cable, transformer and reactive compensation, based which the distribution characteristics of reactive voltage is analysed for the submarine cable. Then, the voltage is studied with reactive compensation. Finally, the compensation installed methods and control strategy are presented for the offshore wind power.
