Abstract

Quantum-behaved particle swarm optimization (QPSO) is based on the particle swarm optimization (PSO) and by adding quantum wave mechanics; it has a better global searching ability. Based on the optimal control principle, QPSO applied for reactive power optimization of an IEEE 30-bus power system. The modeling of reactive power optimization is established by taking the minimum network losses as the objective. The simulation and the comparison results with various optimization algorithms demonstrate that the proposed approach converges to better solutions and the algorithm can be effectively used in reactive power optimization. Simultaneously, the validity and superiority of QPSO is proved.
