Abstract

Collaborative design is a significant method to improve the efficiency of complex product development. In order to reinforce the update and synchronize mechanism of the collaborative working environment, relational design techniques are studied. Taking airplane wing as an example, the relations in product design, manufacturing and measurement stages are analyzed and classified into three types: datum reference relation, parameter relation and non-geometric relation. Then the creation and update methods of the relations of each type are discussed respectively, and they are summarized to a uniform user operation pattern. Finally, a relational design tool is developed and applied in a case study, which validates the feasibility of our methods.
