Abstract

This research work presents a powder metallurgy(PM) method for the production of aluminum matrix composites with recycled glass and recycled aluminum. This paper has investigated the effect of glass particle size, glass content, sintering temperature and sintering time on the properties of the composites. The average glass particle size is45, 75 and 109¦Im and the sintering temperature and time are650~660 and 6 hours. The investigated iae properties include density, hardness and microstructure. It has been concluded that the addition of the glass reinforcement increases the hardness, frictional resistance and wear properties compared to pure AL, while retaining appreciable plastic deformation with certain fracture strain. Under the experimental conditions, the optimum glass particle size is 75¦Im and glass content is 20%.
