Abstract

In this paper, the MATiS-H benchmark was performed by OpenFOAM to obtain turbulence intensities based on the benchmark best user practice guidelines (BPGs). OpenFOAM v6.0, an open-source Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) platform of codes, had been utilized to simulate the MATiS-H benchmark. A new solver is obtained by modifying the SIMPLE solver in OpenFOAM. The realizable k-ε, SST k-ω, and Reynold stress model, as well as two OpenFOAM solvers, were examined with an total grid size ranging from 46 M to 69 M cell volumes to estimate their ability to predict turbulence intensities. It was founded that the predicted turbulence intensities were depended on the turbulence model and solver. Compared with the experimental data provided by KAERI benchmark, the calculated turbulence intensities were lower. However, the predictions of downstream turbulence intensities, using the modified solver, were improved compared with previous research.
