Abstract

The technology of identifying road potholes aims to develop real-time or offline pothole identification strategies and methods to support real-time control of vehicles for assisted driving or autonomous driving or non-real-time operations for road maintenance. As an unstructured terrain feature, potholes are widely and randomly distributed on various roads. The quality of the road conditions also has a great impact on driving. Different potholes will cause different degrees of damage to the vehicle. There are not a few major traffic accidents caused by potholes in the world, so the road potholes are related to people's life and travel. In recent years, with the improvement of living standards, pothole detection has attracted more and more attention. The continuous development of machine learning and the progress of related technologies such as intelligent driving have put forward higher requirements for pothole detection. This paper studies the existing pothole detection technology.
