Abstract

Plasma resonance and optical forces between two cylindrical silver nanowires are studied theoretically. We analyze the negative optical forces effect in detail with the varying relative position and size of the two silver nanowires. It is found that the optical forces between the two nanowires can change with the gap distance and the inner diameters of wires. The negative optical force, indicating attractive between two cylindrical silver nanowires with the local cavity coupled plasma resonance mode inside the air gap. And the electric field is mostly located inside the air gap with the cavity local resonance effect. The negative optical pressure is driven by the kinetic energy of the conduction electrons inside the metallic cavity walls. The positive optical force indicates repulsive between the two cylindrical silver nanowires as like the electromagnetic wave transmits from one nanowire to another nanowire.
