Abstract

Multi-phase motors have additional degrees of freedom which can enhance the quality of controlling system compared with three-phase motors. Multi-motor series-connected system driven by single inverter is one of the typical applications. Stator windings of these motors are connected through an appropriate phase sequence conversion rule and power supplied by the same inverter. The multi-motor system independent operation is achieved. Take the asymmetrical six-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) as research object. The operating principles of series-connected asymmetrical six-phase PMSM system are analyzed from the angle of magnetic motive force (MMF). Four new phase sequence conversion rules are proposed and the simulation results show they are available.
