Abstract

Derived from computer-aided design, parametric design has been widely used in many fields. Parametric design has gone through multiple iterations, whose methods are summarised by numerous researchers, and a large number of excellent graphical algorithms have been produced. However, in spite of the growing interest in Chinese culture, no parametric modelling tool has yet done a systematic treatment of traditional Chinese design elements. In this paper, traditional weaving elements are taken as an example. By constructing the constraint relationship between parameters and modelling, the design result can be changed by modifying parameters. This feature of parameterization, applied in product design, can help avoid a considerable amount of repetitive modification. This can not only help designers improve efficiency, but also promote the spread of traditional Chinese culture worldwide.
