Abstract

Since High temperature superconducting(HTS) cable has almost no loss and strong current carrying capacity, it is widely used in the field of long distance and large capacity transmission technology. In the process of transmission, the HTS cable will inevitably be impacted by the overcurrent fault current. In this process, the cable will generate a lot of heat, which may make the superconductor quench. It will affect the current carrying capacity of HTS cable and cause potential safety hazard. Therefore, it is necessary to study the over-current stability of HTS cables. This paper mainly studies the over-current stability of 1kA HTS cable. Firstly, the temperature distribution of two different structures HTS DC cables are studied by the finite element simulation method under different over-current faults. The ability to withstand HTS current over-current is analyzed. Then, the stability of the HTS cable over-current in the temperature range of 85-90K is studied, and the current impact test of the selected HTS tape is carried out in different temperature ranges. The critical current after the impact is measured by the impact current of 480A, 700A, 900A and 2000A respectively. The influence of the over-current on the superconducting tape is analyzed. Finally, the over-current stability of the HTS tape is summarized.
