Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of oral local anesthesia injection into the pin-point applied with lidocaine gel to the elderly. Methods 84 cases of the elderly patients which need to receive the oral local anesthesia injection were randomly divided into two groups, each has 42 cases. The experimental group was applied with lidocaine gel on the surface of the pin-point before the oral local anesthesia injection, the control group was injected with local anesthesia directly. The pain level when the elderly was being injected, the change of blood pressure and heart rate before and after the oral local anesthesia injection were compared. Results Between the two groups, Significant differences were found in the pain level and the change of pressure before and after the anesthesia (P< 0.05), while no significant difference was found in heart rate before and after the anesthesia. Conclusions Oral local anesthesia injection into the pin-point applied with lidocaine gel can reduce the injection pain, eliminate the elderly fear and prevent the blood pressure from rising. It is an economic, practical, and convenient method of oral local anesthesia. Key words: Elderly; 0ral cavity; Local anesthesia; Lidocaine gel
