Abstract
For the spiral plate heat exchanger, because of its complicated structure, it is difficult to perform accurate design with the conventional design method. For the numerical simulation, however, as there are many coils and many distance columns in the spiral plate heat exchanger and nonlinear contacts are involved in the normal operation, it would be very hard or even impossible to perform computation if the whole equipment is modeled. In this paper, the numerical simulation technology of the spiral plate heat exchanger regarding the strength and instability of the inside plate is studied. Results show that instead of the whole spiral plate heat exchanger model, a single-layer chamber model is capable to analyze the strength and instability of the plate with enough accuracy.
