Abstract

New product development planning and strategy identifies the portfolio of products to be developed. To assist technology managers in identifying core technologies, product development objective, and right technical strategy, the core technology decision frame, objective decision-making method, and technical strategy analyzing method incorporating different tools, such as Porter’s competitive force model, system operator and TRIZ technology evolution theory were proposed. The methods make the decision of core technologies, objective decision-making process operable, and can get enterprises to focus on right technology strategy, and take the corresponding innovation strategy update, consequently speeding up core technology’s maturation. A case study is presented to illustrate the validity of the methods in new product development.
