Abstract

Modular design is a valid design method in the mechatronics product design process, which has an important effect on the product development. This paper is devoted to presenting a systematic modular design approach based on modular interface technology. The interfaces of mechatronics system include mechanical interface, electrical interface, mechatronics interface, software interface, and man-machine interface. After mechatronics system model is proposed, the data structure model of mechatronics products is proposed. Matching strategy of modular interface based on modular interface feature model is then put forward. The modular design of robot arms is given as an example, which demonstrates that the methodology is obviously helpful for product development.
