Abstract

With the increasement of DC grid capacity, the DC system generally has the problems of large short-circuit fault current amplitude, high rise rate, and difficulty in breaking. The matching operation of the DC circuit breaker and resistive superconducting fault current limiter (RSFCL) becomes an ideal way to solve this problem. The purpose of this paper is to study the related problems of matching operation of RSFCL and DC circuit breaker. Based on the simulation model of RSFCL and hybrid DC circuit breaker, this paper studies the influence of inductive reactance and impedance in the process of current limiting process. Combined with the cost, heat loss and current limiting effect, the effect of quenching efficiency and breaking time on matching operation is studied, and the requirements of matching operation are put forward. The current limitation is affected by the inductance and the quench resistance, and the resistance plays a major role in limiting after quenching, and the quenching efficiency of RSFCL will be reduced by inductance. It is not necessary for quench resistance to make the fault current appears a downward trend in the process of current limiting. The coordination performance of hybrid circuit breaker and RSFCL is better than that of mechanical circuit breaker. The research can provide theoretical reference for matching operation of DC circuit breaker and RSFCL.
