Abstract

Objective To investigate the brain peffusiun pattern in patients with subclinical hepatic encephalopathy(SHE) by using MRI peffusion technique, and reveal the mechanism of SHE. Method 24 SHE patients and 24 healthy volunteers accepted MR scanning and perfusion imaging. The parameters of CBF, CBV and MTT were detected. Bilateral head of candate nucleus, globus pallidus, putamen and thalamus were selected as region of interest(ROI). Ipsilateral white matter of frontal lobe was used as reference, the ratios of ROI were calculated and compared with control group. Results Bilateral symmetrical high signal intensity could be detected in basal ganglia in all SHE patients. Compared with control group, the CBF values of left globus pallidus(1.61 ± 0.65) were increased, the difference had statistical significance( P < 0.05). The MTT values of right head of caudate nucleus(0.81 ± 0.16) and bilateral thalamus(right 0.78 ± 0.14, left 0.78±0.17) were reduced, the difference had statistical significance(P <0.05). The CBV values had no statistical change. Conclusions Bilateral symmetrical high signal intensity could he detected in basal ganglia in patients with SHE. The increasing of CBF and decreasing of MTT in basal ganglia were the results of increasing perfusion of basal ganglia. Key words: Hepatic encephalopathy; MR perfusion imaging; Manganese
