Abstract

For low voltage ride through (LVRT) issue of grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) system, a LVRT control strategy based on reactive power compensation is proposed. During the grid voltage sags, the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control strategy of the PV array is improved to reduce the generated power. At the same time, the control strategy of reactive power compensation is adopted to prevent the overcurrent of the inverter, and to provide reactive power support to the grid voltage. The MATLAB/Simulink software is used to compare and analyze the related electrical quantities before and after LVRT control strategy. Simulation results show that the improved control strategy can effectively restrain the increase of the output current of the inverter, provide reactive power to support grid voltage, and realize low voltage ride through during the grid voltage sags.
