Abstract

Direct Current (DC) melting ice is one of the effective measures to solve overhead transmission line icing. Insulated ground wire becomes precondition of DC melting ice. Electric performance of ground wire must meet the normal operation, melting ice operation and lightning protection of transmission line after its insulation. In this paper, the actual insulated ground wire of 500kV extra high voltage transmission line is taken as research object. The relativity between the number of insulated ground wire gap breakdown and lightning amplitude are analyzed using EMTP simulation software. Lightning protection performance of 500 kV transmission line changes little after its insulated ground wire for DC melting ice. It has a certain reference to run insulated ground wire.
