Abstract

Sufficient outdoor activities are beneficial for the comprehensive development of young children. The high summer temperatures and humidity in hot and humid regions pose a challenge to outdoor comfort. Creating comfortable outdoor spaces for activities is particularly important. This study takes Guangzhou City as an example and summarizes the typical layout forms of kindergarten buildings. The Universal Thermal Climate Index is used as an evaluation metric. Simulation analyses of outdoor thermal comfort are conducted using the Grasshopper platform and Ladybug Tools plugin. The study categorically discusses thermal comfort in different layout forms and establishes single variable factors to further explore the extent to which different design elements affect outdoor thermal comfort. It explores design strategies to enhance outdoor thermal comfort in various layout forms, aiming to provide reliable data and references for the design of kindergarten architectural layouts in hot and humid regions.
