Abstract

Satellite Internet is wireless Internet beamed down from satellites orbiting the Earth and has its advantages such as high bandwidth, global coverage, low delay, etc. The key factors and challenges affecting mega-constellation networking include heterogeneous satellite-terrestrial networks, differences of network element, unreliable wireless link, and time-varying topology. First, developing requirements of satellite networks are analyzed, and its new capabilities is proposed in the paper. Second, the key technologies and development trends that affect satellite networks are analyzed, such as integrated satellite terrestrial network, high-dynamic routing protocols, network management & control, mobility management, etc. Third, the technical route and implementation scheme about pioneering practice such as satellite network operating system, demonstration and verification platform for satellite network, on-broad router supporting SDN are proposed.
