Abstract

Solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation technology applied on ship is a new research direction to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and improve the energy efficiency. Position and moving posture of the ship will be changing when a marine ship is sailing in ocean, as a result, solar total irradiance on PV panels will be different with those on the land, which is changing with fluctuations any time. Then the PV output power(PVOP)will appear fluctuations with the rolling ship, which increased the uncertainty of the original PVOP. In order to exactly estimate the solar total irradiance in sailing ship and deal with the problem of PVOP fluctuations, this paper establishes a suitable calculation model for solar total irradiance (STI) and designs a suitable hybrid energy storage system (HESS) and its controller based on STI in sailing ship. The controller of HESS can smooth the PVOP fluctuations caused by the rolling ship, and to a certain extent, solve the problem that the PV power generation is difficult to schedule, which makes PVOP incorporated into the grid more reliable, economical and environmentally friendly.
